Junior Specialist Position

Dr. Patrick Shih lab, Dept. of Plant Biology, UC Davis

NATURE AND PURPOSE

The Junior Specialist will carry out experiments and contribute to the project. The appointee
possesses some subject matter expertise necessary to carry out experiments. Junior specialists will work with other postdoctoral researchers and the PI on experiments and data interpretation. They are not required to develop an independent research program or reputation.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform research on developing synthetic biology tools for the ultimate purpose of controlling plant gene expression.
1) RESEARCH (90 %)
The appointee will help to carry out research goals in consultation with the Principal Investigator while collaborating with various postdoctoral researchers and technicians in the lab. Experience in plant synthetic biology or biochemistry preferred. The appointee may work with postdocs to help guide research and troubleshoot experiments. The appointee will generate and organize data from experiments. The candidate will help in both the technical and creative development of projects currently under way in the laboratory. The appointee will be expected to make meaningful research contributions to publications and scholarly manuscripts, including organizing data and data analysis. The research carried out and data collected will be used for academic research with the ultimate purpose of being published.
2) PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (5%)
The appointee will participate in lab meetings and one-on-one meetings with the Principal
Investigator.
3) UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (5%)
The appointee will participate in carrying out experiments that will provide the underlying research for future potential undergraduate researchers. The incumbent is encouraged to participate in clubs and committees that promote the research, teaching, and outreach goals of this University.

QUALIFICATIONS

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified applicants must have at least a B.S. in a field of biology, biochemistry, or plant biology.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Lab experience specifically in synthetic biology, plant biology, or molecular biology preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants should be able to keep a complete and detailed laboratory notebook of experimental procedures and data and to archive, label and document graphic and tabular data for publication, proposals, and/or presentations.
